Build an achievement file
Keep a permanent, specific record of accomplishments so evidence is available when the impostor voice is loudest.
Why it works
Impostor beliefs are maintained partly by a biased recall filter — successes are attributed externally and therefore do not update the self-concept, while failures are retained as evidence of true incompetence. An explicit external record defeats the biased memory: it puts factual counter-evidence outside the memory system where the bias operates, making it available for deliberate retrieval when the internal narrative would otherwise go unchallenged.
How to do it
- Create a dedicated document, folder, or app note labeled “Evidence file.”
- After any positive outcome, deliverable, or piece of feedback, record it with a specific date and context — enough detail that you will remember why it mattered.
- Include external recognition (emails, comments) verbatim, not paraphrased, to reduce your ability to minimize them.
- Review the file before high-stakes situations when impostor thoughts intensify.

Common mistake
Recording outcomes but not the specific competencies or decisions that produced them, which still permits external attribution (“I got lucky on that project” rather than “I caught the design flaw everyone else missed”).
