Why it works

Savoring intensity scales with attentional focus. Deliberately sharpening one sensory channel (closing your eyes to taste, listening with full attention) and removing distractions concentrates limited attention on the pleasure, raising its felt intensity — the opposite of the diluted, multitasked way most pleasures are consumed.

How to do it

  1. Remove the obvious distractions first — phone away, notifications off.
  2. Heighten one channel: close your eyes, or focus entirely on the sound, taste, or texture.
  3. Let the experience be the only thing you are doing for its duration.
