Build physical energy

Treat sleep, movement, food, and hydration as the base layer of all capacity.

Why it works

Physical energy is the foundation the other dimensions draw on: cognitive control, emotional regulation, and motivation all degrade when you are under-slept, under-fueled, or sedentary. Sleep, regular movement, steady fueling, and hydration are the most direct levers on baseline capacity.

How to do it

  1. Protect sufficient, consistent sleep as the single highest-leverage input.
  2. Move regularly and break up long sedentary stretches.
  3. Fuel and hydrate steadily rather than running on fumes and a late crash.

Evidence

The links from sleep, exercise, and nutrition to cognitive and emotional functioning are broadly well supported across sleep science, exercise physiology, and nutrition research. (rct)

This is a wellbeing practice; persistent fatigue despite good basics warrants medical attention, not just more discipline.

Common mistake

Trying to fix mental or emotional slumps with mindset tricks while chronically under-slept — no technique outperforms restoring the physical base.
