Morning pages — three longhand pages of uncensored writing done first thing each day — is a tool from Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way designed to clear mental noise and surface creative impulses that the inner critic normally suppresses. Julia Cameron introduced morning pages in The Artist’s Way (1992) as the central tool for recovering blocked creatives. The practice is deliberately low-bar: write three pages by hand, first thing, without editing or re-reading. The goal is not good writing — it is drainage.
