Why it works
How to do it
Plate-size and portion effects appear in the literature, though effect sizes are debated and some specific findings have failed to hold up. A Cochrane systematic review of portion, package, and tableware size concluded that people consistently consume more food when offered larger sizes, supporting the direction — larger vessels nudge larger servings — even as the magnitude stays modest. (observational)
Early dramatic claims have been tempered; the effect is modest and not a substitute for attention to fullness.
