Do a Body module practice: aerobic or strength work
Pick one physical practice, such as aerobics or weightlifting, and do it on a fixed schedule you can keep.
Perché funziona
The Starter Kit places physical practices such as aerobics and weightlifting in the Body module. The strongest evidence on this page for any Body practice is a meta-analysis of exercise trials in people with depression, which found a large effect of exercise on depression. That result shows an effect of exercise on depression. It does not isolate which feature of exercise produces it, and it does not test the Body module as the Starter Kit describes it.
Come farlo
- Pick one aerobic or strength practice you would repeat, such as brisk walking or a set of weights.
- Schedule three sessions in the coming week at fixed times.
- Write one line after each session: what you did and how you felt afterward.
- After four weeks, read the lines back and compare them with how your mood and energy have been.
Prove scientifiche
Schuch et al. (2016) pooled 25 randomized trials of exercise against control conditions in people with depression and reported an adjusted standardized mean difference of 1.11 (95% CI 0.79–1.43) for depression. The Starter Kit lists aerobics and weightlifting under the Body module. (rct)
The population was people with depression, so the result does not transfer directly to people looking for general well-being. The effect is the authors’ own estimate after adjusting for publication bias; the abstract reports that most adjusted analyses suggested publication bias led to an underestimated SMD. The trials did not study Integral Life Practice.

- Pick one practice from each of the four core modules
Choose one practice each for body, mind, spirit and shadow, instead of trying to work on every area of life at once.
- Take multiple perspectives on one disagreement
Write the strongest version of a view you disagree with, in its own terms, before you answer it.
- Meditate for a set time each day
Sit for a fixed, short period, notice when attention wanders, and bring it back to the breath each time.
- Use a one-minute module on a crowded day
Do a condensed version of a practice you already know, in about a minute, at a fixed moment of the day.
- Add an auxiliary module for the area you neglect most
Once the four core modules feel steady, add one auxiliary module, such as Work, Relationships or Ethics.
- Audit which core area you keep skipping each week
Once a week, check which of the four core modules you did and which you skipped, and write down the first reason for each skip.
