Spend 2–3 minutes imagining in full sensory detail how it will feel when the wish is fulfilled.

Why it works

Outcome visualization in WOOP is not the end of the process — it is the first half of the contrast. Its function is to make the desired future state psychologically real and emotionally charged, so that the subsequent obstacle confrontation is felt as a real tension between desire and reality. Without vivid outcome imaging, the obstacle step is abstract; the contrast requires both poles to be emotionally activated.

How to do it

  1. Find two to three minutes of quiet. Close your eyes.
  2. Imagine the best possible outcome of achieving your wish — not just the end state, but the experience of being in it: what you see, what you feel, what has changed.
  3. Let the positive feeling build — do not rush past it toward the obstacles.
  4. Open your eyes and write one sentence capturing the outcome image while it is fresh.

Evidence
