Read the emotional truth on a card every day
Write the statement on an index card, read it daily, and notice the pattern in real time when it happens.
Por qué funciona
A discovery made in session is easily lost again. Ecker and Hulley describe writing the key sentence on a small index card for daily reading as a mainstay method for keeping the newly conscious learning in ordinary awareness until it is stably integrated, which they say usually takes a series of experiences over days to weeks. They pair it with noticing the problem when it occurs and feeling, right then, why it feels necessary. They describe this integration as what makes the learning open to change, and report that in about half of cases it changes on its own at this stage.
Cómo hacerlo
- Write your statement on a card in first person, present tense: short, vivid, close to your own words.
- Read it once a day, slowly enough to feel it rather than just see it.
- When the reaction happens between readings, pause and say to yourself why, in that moment, it feels necessary.
- Do not try to stop the reaction yet; the point is to feel your own reason for it, knowingly.
Evidencia
The index card and real-time recognition appear in the authors' summary of the method and in both published cases read for this page. The claim that integration alone produces change in about half of cases is the authors' own clinical estimate in their 2008 chapter, not a measured rate. (anecdotal)
The roughly-half figure is a clinical impression from the authors' practice, not data from a study.

Error común
Rewording the card into an affirmation or a reminder to stop ("I don't need to do this anymore"). The authors are explicit that at this stage the card names why the reaction is necessary, without counteracting it.
