Why it works

How to do it

Observational learning and mentorship research supports tacit knowledge transfer; studies of expertise apprenticeship show that close contact with experts accelerates judgment development beyond practice alone. Ericsson’s deliberate-practice studies emphasize the role of a coach or teacher in structuring feedback, and Norman’s clinical-reasoning research shows expert perceptual habits are largely tacit — the kind of framing that transfers by watching a practitioner think, not by receiving their conclusions. (observational)

Mentorship literature is heterogeneous and hard to isolate; "learning from a phronimos" is a principled extrapolation rather than a directly tested intervention.
