Streaks App Habit Tracking
A habit tracker works well when it follows a few behaviors you have chosen. These four practices help you pick what to track and learn from the record, with the steps for doing each in Streaks.

Measure to close the feedback loop
Record the behavior so you see what you are actually doing, not what you assume.
In Streaks:
- Add one task for the single behavior that most closely represents the habit, rather than a dozen at once.
- Tick it off right after you do it, not from memory at the end of the day.
- Open the task history each week and see where the record differs from what you assumed.

Review the data to adjust the system
Use the tracker as diagnostic input, not just a scoreboard.
In Streaks:
- Open the history for a task and look for the days you missed, then note the day, time and place.
- Change a single thing, such as the time of the reminder, and keep ticking tasks through the change.
- Check the statistics after a couple of weeks to see whether the change moved the rate.

Evidence: mechanistic reasoning
Track only what you genuinely intend to influence
Build habit trackers sparingly — only for behaviors you have actively chosen to change, not as a measurement exercise.
In Streaks:
- Keep two or three tasks in the app at a time, and archive the rest.
- Choose daily completion as the only thing each task asks for.
- Once a week, open the history and ask whether each task still deserves a place.

Track leading behaviors, not lagging outcomes
Track what you do (meals logged, minutes walked, words written), not what results (weight, fitness, chapters finished).
In Streaks:
- Add a task for the action that drives the result you want, rather than for the result itself.
- Tick it daily and set a reminder for the time you usually do it.
- Look at the outcome only once a month, and use the history to judge whether you picked the right action.
