Hear which perspective you speak from

Read back what you wrote or said about a situation and mark each sentence by the perspective it speaks from.

Por qué funciona

Adult person-perspective research measures perspective through language: the STAGES method scores written sentence completions on three dimensions of language rather than on content. You cannot score yourself that way, but listening to your own sentences for whose view they hold — mine, yours about me, an observer’s, or one that notices its own context — shows which perspectives you reach for and which ones you rarely use.

Cómo hacerlo

  1. Take a journal entry, message or voice note about something that matters to you.
  2. Mark each sentence: 1 (my experience and wants), 2 (how you see me, or how I see you seeing me), 3 (what a fair outsider would say is true), 4 (how this view was shaped by its context).
  3. Count the marks without judging the mix.
  4. Rewrite one paragraph adding a sentence from the perspective you used least.

Evidencia

O’Fallon et al. (2020) describe STAGES scoring as evaluating three dimensions or parameters of language in sentence completions, and report its agreement with Cook-Greuter’s scoring. O’Fallon (2020) notes that the second-person stage begins with a confusion about pronouns themselves — that "I" and "you" change meaning depending on who is speaking. Self-coding your own sentences is a reflective use of these ideas, not a measurement. (mechanistic)

Trained raters score how meaning is made across many completions; marking your own sentences cannot tell you your stage, and written tests may favor people who are more verbally articulate, as the validation study itself notes.

Error común

Writing more "4" sentences to look developed. The useful finding is the perspective you avoid, not the one you can imitate.
