Why it works

How to do it

Cognitive restructuring of IU-related beliefs is a component of multiple evidence-based GAD protocols; in Dugas’s model, cognitive restructuring and uncertainty exposure are delivered together. Ladouceur et al. (2000) tested this combined restructuring-plus-exposure package in a controlled clinical trial, confirming the treatment package reduces GAD symptoms relative to a waitlist. (clinical)

Restructuring alone is typically less effective than pairing it with behavioral uncertainty exposure — beliefs update more durably with behavioral evidence than with logic alone.
