Describe the disturbing quality in sensory words

Describe the chosen symptom and its manifestations in sensory words, such as warmth, tingling or pressure, then identify its most disturbing quality: the study's fourth step.

Por qué funciona

These steps are the eight-step session protocol that Sedláková et al. (2020) designed, inspired by Weyermann (2006) and consulted with a practitioner. Mindell's own books could not be read for this page. Sedláková et al. (2020) state that signals of the two processes emerge through channels, which they list as visual, auditory, movement, proprioceptive, relational and world, citing Diamond and Jones (2005). The study's steps do not include a step for identifying a channel. This practice uses Step 4: participants described the symptom and its manifestations in detail, using a sensory-based description, and identified its most disturbing quality.

Cómo hacerlo

  1. Starting from the symptom you described, describe its manifestations in detail, in sensory words such as warmth, tingling or pressure.
  2. Identify the most disturbing quality of what you described.

Evidencia

Sedláková et al. (2020) describe the sensory-based description as Step 4 of their session, and cite Diamond and Jones (2005) for the channel list. It is a practitioner framework; the study did not test the channel categories or this step on their own. (anecdotal)

See a doctor about any physical symptom before exploring it. The study did not require a doctor check; this page adds it. The channels are a practitioner vocabulary cited to Diamond and Jones (2005); the study does not show that they are tested categories of perception. If you feel flooded, lose track of where you are, or images or sensations will not settle, stop and continue this work with a trained therapist rather than alone.

Error común

Describing the signal only in words. The study used a sensory-based description at Step 4, so a verbal summary alone skips that step.
