Youper Data Export After Its Sept 30, 2026 Shutdown: What to Know
Can I still export my data from Youper now that it has shut down?
Youper discontinued its services on September 30, 2026. As of 2026-10-03, its data-export page says accounts, chat histories and personal information are being permanently deleted, and it no longer offers an export. This page records how export worked before the shutdown as Youper described it, what Youper's pages said on 2026-10-03, and what we could not verify. IX Coach, which publishes this page, is AI coaching, not therapy and not a crisis service.
Youper, the AI mental-health chatbot built on cognitive behavioral therapy, has shut down as of 2026-10-03. Its own site says "Youper discontinued its services on September 30, 2026," and its data-export page, start.youper.ai/export-data, states that all user accounts, chat histories and personal information "are being securely and permanently deleted from our servers and backups." As of 2026-10-03 that page no longer offers an export, so the window this guide was first written for — getting mood logs, CBT exercises or journal entries out before the shutdown — has closed, and we could not verify that any route to your data remains. This guide records how export worked as Youper described it, what its pages said on 2026-10-03, what to do with the daily habit if the app itself was what ended, and where IX Coach, an AI coaching product, fits. For the tools that are live today, see our Youper alternatives page at /learn/youper-alternative.
How export worked before the shutdown
Youper's notice, as captured on 2026-09-08, described two paths, and an independent blog reported the same two. If you still had the app installed and could log in: open Youper, go to Settings, and select "Request my data." Youper's separate FAQ page describes the same feature reached a slightly different way — tap the profile ("Me") tab, then the gear icon in the top right corner, then "Request my data" — and that FAQ answer was still online on 2026-10-03 beneath the discontinuation banner, although the app it describes could not be installed from either store as of that date. The menu label differed between Youper's own pages.
If you no longer had the app installed, or couldn't log in, the notice pointed to a separate web page: start.youper.ai/export-data. That page loaded as a signed-in application when we opened it on 2026-09-08, so we could not describe what appeared past its login screen. On 2026-10-03 it shows the discontinuation message and the deletion statement instead. The notice never stated what file format the export arrived in or how long processing took.
What the export doesn't carry forward
An export is the raw record — a file, or a set of files, sitting on your own device. It isn't a coach that already knows that record. Youper's day-to-day product built up a "Mental Health Record" from your check-ins and referenced it back to you as periodic "Insights"; as of 2026-10-03 accounts are being deleted, so that referencing has stopped even where a file you exported still exists.
IX Coach is a different kind of product built around the same basic need for continuity, worth naming here because it's a real, checkable design difference rather than a claim about which product is better for you: it's a single AI coach meant to hold context across an ongoing coaching relationship rather than reset with each new conversation, drawing on practice across psychological, coaching, and spiritual methods rather than one clinical framework. IX Coach is AI coaching, not therapy. The range of practice it draws on is listed publicly at ixcoach.com/practices, so that part doesn't have to be taken on description alone. You can check the continuity difference for yourself by comparing what each product actually does with a person's history from one session to the next — an export answers what happened to your data; it doesn't answer what happens to the noticing.
What the live pages say about your data now (as of 2026-10-03)
As of 2026-10-03, Youper's data-export page says user accounts, chat histories and personal information "are being securely and permanently deleted from our servers and backups." That is the present progressive, so on 2026-10-03 the deletion was under way, and the page does not say when it finishes. Youper's notice as captured on 2026-09-08 had also said your data would not be sold or transferred to any other company; that sentence is not on the live pages, so it is a past capture rather than a current promise.
The same capture said that accounts inactive for more than 12 months had already been deleted under Youper's Terms of Use, so a long-dormant account likely had nothing left to export. That too is absent from the live pages. If you didn't export before the shutdown, the live page's own wording as of 2026-10-03 is that your data is being permanently deleted.
Your subscription and any refund
Youper's notice as captured on 2026-09-08 said that all auto-renewing subscriptions had been disabled and that no further charges would occur, with refund instructions sent to anyone with prepaid time through the platform they subscribed on — Apple's App Store or Google Play handling it separately rather than Youper processing refunds itself. That wording is not on the live notice as of 2026-10-03, so we can't confirm it as a current statement. The subscription list in your Apple or Google account shows whether anything is still active. The same earlier notice listed hello@youper.ai as a contact for account and data questions; we haven't confirmed that address is still read.
What's actually in a Youper account, so you know what to expect
Depending on how long you used the app, a Youper account held a running mood log, the text of daily guided check-in conversations built around CBT-style reframing, and the periodic "Insights" the app generated by looking for patterns across entries — that general structure is described on Youper's own site and independently corroborated by ChoosingTherapy.com's 2026 review (checked 2026-09-08). What we could not confirm from any source is whether the export separated these into distinct files, bundled them into one document, or was meant for a person to read versus a machine to import somewhere else. If you made an export before the shutdown, the file itself is the best answer to that question.
If you want the fuller picture on Youper itself
This guide is about getting your data out, not about whether Youper worked. What the app's CBT, DBT, and ACT approach actually was, what the 2021 Stanford-coauthored research behind it found and didn't find, and what long-time users said the app lost in its last redesign are covered in a separate review, not repeated here.
Keeping the habit, not just the file
An exported file is a record, not a routine. If the daily habit of writing something down each day is what actually helped — separate from which app hosted it — that habit doesn't require Youper's chatbot to continue. Expressive writing, the practice of writing about a difficulty in your own words for a short, regular stretch of time, is a well-documented technique on its own, independent of any app. Morning pages — a set number of unedited pages, written first thing — is a plainer version of the same idea that a notebook or a blank document holds just as well as a subscription did.
If what you valued in Youper's daily check-in conversations was specifically the CBT thought-reframing structure, the underlying technique — often called a thought record — is a defined format you can run by hand: name the automatic thought, check it against the actual evidence, then write a more accurate one. None of these need an account that a company can delete out from under you.

If you want the reflection met, not just logged
Self-monitoring — tracking a mood, a behavior, or a thought pattern over time, in any format — is a practice with a real mechanism behind it independent of any single app, and it's what Youper's mood tracker was one version of. What an export doesn't include is anything that responds to the pattern once you've noticed it. That's the specific thing an ongoing coaching relationship is built to do that a personal archive isn't: notice what showed up last month and ask about it again this month, the way a person would rather than a spreadsheet. IX Coach is built around that kind of continuity specifically — a real, checkable design choice about how the product works, not a promise about the outcome for any one person.

If What You Need Right Now Is Crisis Support
Everything above is about a file — a logistics task. If you're reading this because you're also in crisis right now, the file can wait. Nothing on this page is a substitute for care from a licensed professional, and that includes IX Coach, which is AI coaching, not therapy and not a crisis service. Youper's own pages, still online on 2026-10-03 beneath its discontinuation notice, state that it "is not an emergency service and cannot provide crisis intervention" and that it "does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment," and for a mental health emergency, or for thoughts of suicide or self-harm, they send people to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — call or text 988 — or to the Crisis Text Line by texting HOME to 741741, or to 911. Every one of those is free, and any of them comes before the file.
