Find the disowned self through what you judge
Use the people who irritate or fascinate you most as a map to the selves you have pushed away.
Warum es wirkt
In the Stones' model, every primary self has an opposite that was pushed out because it felt unsafe or unacceptable — a hardworking Pusher disowns the self that rests; a Pleaser disowns the self that says no. Disowned energy does not vanish; it shows up as unusually strong judgment of, or attraction to, people who live it openly. The charge is the clue: a reaction out of proportion to what the other person did points at a self you carry but do not let live.
So gehst du vor
- List two people who irritate you far more than their actions justify, and one person you admire almost too much.
- For each, write the single quality that bothers or attracts you most (lazy, selfish, free, blunt).
- Ask: which of my primary selves would never allow me to be like this?
- Write one sentence describing what a small, safe dose of that quality might look like in your own life.
Evidenz
The link between disowned selves and strong reactions to others is central to the Stones' writing and continues the Jungian idea of shadow projection (Hal Stone trained as a Jungian analyst). It is a clinical observation, not an experimentally tested claim. (anecdotal)
Not every strong reaction is a disowned self; some people really do behave badly. The practice is a hypothesis to test against your own experience, not a verdict about you.

Häufiger Fehler
Concluding "so I must secretly be like them". The point is to recover a usable dose of a quality you have shut out — rest, a clear no, directness — not to take on the other person's whole pattern.
