Speak as one self from its own seat
Move to a different seat and let one self answer questions in its own voice, then return to the centre.
Warum es wirkt
The core move of Voice Dialogue is physical separation: the person moves to a different seat and a facilitator speaks to the self directly ("How long have you been working for her? What are you afraid would happen if you stopped?"). Speaking AS the self, rather than about it, lets its tone, posture and fears come through more fully than reflection does. Returning to the original seat afterward is what creates the contrast the Stones call the Aware Ego — the felt difference between being the self and witnessing it.
So gehst du vor
- Sit in a "centre" seat and name the self you want to hear from. Then physically move to another chair or spot.
- Have a facilitator or trusted partner ask the self questions (what is your job, when did you start, what do you fear) while you answer as that self, in its voice.
- After ten to fifteen minutes, return to the centre seat. Sit quietly and notice how it feels to be outside that self.
- From the centre, say out loud one thing you now understand about what that self needs.
Evidenz
The separate-seat facilitation is the method as the Stones set it out in their manual. They report it from clinical practice; no controlled outcome study of Voice Dialogue was found. The shared mechanism — giving a part of the self its own chair and voice — is studied in chair-work research: Kellogg's review traces the technique across therapies, and a pilot of emotion-focused two-chair dialogue with nine self-critical clients found medium-to-large reductions in self-criticism, maintained at six months. (anecdotal)
The chair-work studies test a different therapy (emotion-focused two-chair dialogue), not Voice Dialogue; they support the general mechanism by analogy only. The Stones designed the method to be facilitated, so self-guided versions are a departure from it.

Häufiger Fehler
Staying in the self's seat and arguing with it, or skipping the return to centre. Without the step back, you have just given the loudest self more airtime; the change comes from feeling the contrast.
